In this, the second of Authouart's latest series of Dream Cars, we see young lovers playing in the Mediterranean surf. The dream car in New Wave, again that of a friend, is this time a Porsche 356. The landscape was drawn while on holiday on the island of Majorca.
This is an eight color stone litho done entirely on an old stone lithographic press from Atelier Mourlot. Used by Charles Sorlier, at Mourlot, this same press was used to print many of the lithographs of Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. The press can also be seen on page 115 of the Authouart Coffee Table Book. Authouart printed 7 of the 8 colors for this litho at his own atelier, Arts-litho, in Paris. He then gives live printing demonstrations at various exhibitions, printing the eighth and final color. For anyone never having seen a lithograph printed, it proves a very informative and interesting experience.
